Re:  Enjoy a Summer of Reading!

The short break in the summer is an excellent time for students to read for pleasure.  Frequent trips to the library and bookstore help to keep children motivated to try new titles.   Reading in the summer months is not only fun, but very educationally rewarding.  Increased vocabulary and comprehension development are just two of the benefits of picking up a book and reading for pleasure.  We encourage every family to take advantage of this wonderful vacation time to read, read, read!

During the school year, students participate in the Book It! reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut.  This summer students can also participate in the Book It! program by logging on to www.bookitprogram.com.  Go to: “Brain Food: Summer Reading Fun” for contest entry and rules.   The summer contest is very easy:  Each student must read a total of five books between June 13, 2008 and August 15, 2008 then submit their entry to the address listed.  There are many prizes to win.   Also, bring your completed Book It! form to the CCS  Library when you return to school for a prize!

The Harris County Libraries offer Summer Reading Enrichment programs.  Please take advantage of these fun activities.  Check their website in the next few days for a list of the summer events.

There are many websites that offer excellent book lists to help you in choosing quality, age appropriate books for your child.  As always, parental discernment is very important in using any book list for children.
