Drama

High School Drama

The High School Drama program gives students an introduction to the basics of acting including pantomime, characterization, improvisation, vocal excellence and auditioning. The study of Voice and Dialect is also included along with a performance monologue.  The spring semester is packed with preparation for the TAPPS and ACSI Competitions. Students prepare Readers Theatre, Duet, Solo or Persuasive Speaking for the meet.  In addition, each student perpares a Duet Scene with a partner.  Students finish out the year studying Shakespeare including a Shakespearian monologue.

In January 2008, the High School Drama Club presented Steel Magnolias for CCS families and friends.  The drama students demonstrated unity, resolve, perservance and over-all excellence of Christlike character throughout the weeks of rehearsal, as well a during the three performances.  CCS is very proud of the entire cast and crew!

Travel

In the spring of 2005, the class also had the opportunity to go on a New York City tour! The students used their talent to create and perform a Gospel drama in a homeless shelter in the Bronx. Though not a yearly field trip, the drama team hopes to return soon.

Middle School Drama

Students are able to sign up by semester to get involved in the drama program. In the fall semester, the class works on the basics of acting including pantomime, characterization, improvisation, and vocal production. As the presentations vary, the common thread is the message of hope and truth in Christ.  Students not only act and sing, but they are given the opportunity to work backstage with choreography, props and set.  Past performances included Anchor's Away in 2007. In November of 2003, the class wrote their own play, Cassie’s Story based on the true story of the Columbine High School tragedy.

The second semester in drama is jam-packed with preparation for the ACSI Speech Meet, hosted by CCS students.  Students prepare Puppet Shows, Costume Monologues, Bible Readings and Prose Readings to compete for medals and ribbons right here at our school. The class often performs Bible Characters or Bible Scenes for the younger grades as well.
