MIDDLE SCHOOL
6th Grade Art
During this nine week course, students will be introduced to art vocabulary and various elements of art. Students will have the opportunity to explore various art mediums both for 2-D and 3-D projects. During the fall semester classes, students have the opportunity to participate in the Houston Rodeo Art Contest.
7th and 8th Grade Art
There are two classes of 7th and 8th grade art classes, a different one per semester. Students participating in the fall semester will have the opportunity to participate in Rodeo Art contest. The focus of our projects centers on elements of art and design. Over the course of the semester, the students have the opportunity to utilize and explore various art mediums both for 2-D and 3-D projects.
HIGH SCHOOL
Art - Drawing
This is a foundational art class that will cover 2-D drawing skills. This course develops a student's observation skills through experiementation with various approaches, styles, techniques, and media. Students will draw from still life set-ups, photographs and a live model. Drawing instruments include pencil, charcoal, and colored pencils.
Art - Painting
Studio class is where the student can apply the basics of painting from technique to composition while working from still life and photographs. Any 2-D medium is possible, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, or oil pastels.
Art - Design Basics (2-D)
This studio course explores the fundamentals of two-dimensional design: line, shape, texture, value, color, and composition. Exploration of a variety of media and mixed media is encouraged. Outside computer work may be required. Students will study different areas of design in our culture and incorporate into personalized projects.
Art - 3-D
This course is designed for self-motivated students with a basic understanding of the elements of art and the processes involved in drawing, watercolor, and acyrlic painting. Students will explore the fundamentals of three-dimensional design: line, plane, mass, surface, light and color in space. A variety of media will be used. Options for this class include sculpture, jewelry, paper mache, and other 3-D materials.
Service Projects
The Secondary Art Department seeks to honor God through service to the community. Please see related article in Winter 2006 Connection.
Art Competition
Each spring, art students participate in TAPPS Competitions (District, Regional and State). Please see the Fine Arts Accomplishments page on this web site.
